Spotlight on Jack Swanson, tenor
SMC supporters will remember Jack Swanson (2012-2013) in the roles of Tobias in Sweeney Todd and the title character in Albert Herring. Since his two summers at the Colony, Jack’s career has skyrocketed to incredible heights across the U.S. and Europe.
At only 25 years old, Jack was highlighted in the January 2018 issue of Opera News magazine before his Los Angeles Opera debut as the title character in Candide alongside superstars Kelsey Grammer and Christine Ebersole. Other highlights of his 2018 season included debuts at Glyndeborne and Lyric Opera of Kansas City singing Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville and the leading role of Lindoro in The Italian Girl in Algiers at Santa Fe Opera, where he had previously been an apprentice singer for two summers.
Upcoming engagements include a return to Candide at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées and Opéra de Marseille in France, Nemorino in The Elixir of Love at Norwegian Opera, Alfred in Die Fledermaus at Palm Beach Opera, Sam Kaplan in Street Scene in Cologne, Germany, and yet another Count Almaviva at Portland Opera.
In addition to all the recent and upcoming singing engagements, Jack has won numerous competitions including The National Opera Association, and those of Florida Grand Opera and the San Antonio Music Club. Most impressively, Jack is one of only a handful of singers to receive the Tucker Foundation’s Sara Tucker Study Grant and the Richard Tucker Career Grant in consecutive years.
To top all of this off, Jack recorded an album of some of his favorite Disney songs and musical theater pieces. 100% of the profits from the CD will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. To say Jack’s singing career is on the rise is a great understatement. Look for Jack singing somewhere near you soon.
